Joe Montana began his college career as a seventh-string Quarterback at Notre Dame. In the 1979 NFL draft, eighty-one players were chosen before him. Fifteen years later, his professional record included more than 40,000 NFL passing yards, 276 touchdown passes, and an almost uncanny ability to hit his receivers more than 63 percent of the time. He led San Francisco to four Superbowl wins in 1981, 1984, 1988, and 1989, and was named Superbowl MVP three times. When Montana retired from professional football, John Madden described what made him special. He said, "Joe did stuff that everyone else tried to do, but he made it look easy."
